Intercultural Dialogue Lecture Series Has Successful 2nd Panel
The second panel discussion in the Intercultural Dialogue to ChangeTheStory lecture series took place Thursday, February 4. The discussion, Amplifying the Voices of Iraqi Refugees, focused on presenting concrete projects and ways we, as concerned individuals, can work to uplift the stories of Iraqi refugee voices.
Four presenters discussed ways they are working to Amplify the Voices of Iraqi Refugees: media branding expert Michael Jordan, artist Kim Schultz, journalist Charity Tooze, and Intersections’ Iraqi Voices Amplification Project (IVAP) Project Manager, C. Eduardo Vargas.
IVAP is an Intersections project that brought eight artists to Lebanon, Syria and Jordan to meet and interact with displaced Iraqis and hear their stories. As part of a national campaign to draw more attention to this pressing issue, Intersections is showcasing the artists’ work that resulted from the visit. Both Jordan and Schultz were members of the IVAP team.
The evening began with the first public showing of an original video produced by IVAP. Panelists were asked what legislators can do to help solve the Iraqi refugee crisis. They responded by saying we should allow more refugees to resettle in the United States, and provide them with social services so they are better able to integrate into American society. Intersections’ Project Manager Sara Reef moderated the discussion.
