In light of the tragic earthquake that took place in Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, we invite you to join in a response to help those affected by this crisis.

Panel at University of Colorado conferenceIntersections hosted a panel discussion on Friday, January 8, at the University of Colorado Boulder’s conference on Islam and the Media. This panel, “Mecca to Metropolis: The 99 A Muslim Comic Strip,” was a keynote address by Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa, the creator of THE 99 – the first group of superheroes born of an Islamic archetype. Responding to Dr. Al-Mutawa were Mona Eltahawy, Zeenat Rahman, and Hussein Rashid. Intersections’ Executive Director Rev. Robert Chase moderated the panel.

Conversations As Melodies is a musical series that brings together performers from the global community to entertain and interact with guests in order to feel the power of creativity.

The 2nd ChangeTheStory Panel Discussion: Amplifying the Voices of Iraqi Refugees
Thursday, February 4, 7-8:30 p.m., with a reception to follow

This panel discussion will begin with a special screening of the Iraqi Voices Amplification Project (IVAP) highlight video, showing how the artistic process can be used to raise awareness about humanitarian issues. This will be followed by a panel discussion, which will explore different methods used to raise awareness about the Iraqi refugee crisis. Speakers include Michael Jordan, Kim Schultz, Charity Tooze, and C. Eduardo Vargas. For more information, please visit Intersections website.

Introduction to Islam: Taught by ChangeTheStory.net Advisor Hussein Rashid
Mondays, February 1, 8, 15 and 22

This introductory course will cover the principal beliefs of Islam, the differences between Sunnis and Shiites, the Muslim “Bible” the Qur’an, as well as the idea of jihad. Class readings will be provided. Each class will allow ample time for discussion and questions.
