Featured Video: Analogy

by Anisa Mehdi, ChangeTheStory.net Advisory Board Member

As an Arab-American-Muslim, born in California and raised in New York City, I grew up with the taunts that come from ignorance: Where’s your camel? Do you have a bomb in your backpack? Why do you hate the Jews? This was long before the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

Stereotypes and the judgments that emanate from them are hurtful and dangerous. Condemning all for the crimes of a few is hateful and damning. The short video you’re about to watch brings the consequences of such ignorance and hate into sharp relief. It poses the premise: if all Muslims are terrorists, then all Christians must be Klansmen. That can be very tough to swallow – especially since it’s so far from the truth on both accounts. But sometimes it takes an unpleasant reminder to wake our sense and sensibility to the larger, truer story. Let’s ChangeTheStory.

Video: False Impressions

Muslim Americans voice their concerns about the misconceptions that are made about them. They discuss that they are no different from their non-Muslim neighbors and would just like to be understood as such.

Video: What is American?

by Ali Shehata

So often in America, Muslims who are either citizens by birth or naturalization are told they are not "American" either because of their names, their dress or their ethnic background. This short movie explores what being an American is really all about.
